Baba's Bunch: Giving Selflessly to Fight Alzheimer's

Baba's Bunch: Giving Selflessly to Fight Alzheimer's

This past month on September 23rd Turner Hats was proud to participate in the Sena Memorial Golf Classic.

The annual golf tournament, now on it’s fifth year, commemorates the life of Mike Sena's late father who passed away after a six year battle with Alzheimer’s and has become the main fundraising event for our featured partner Baba’s Bunch.

The story of Baba’s Bunch is one of selflessness and love that we can all reflect on to inspire our daily actions as we come into a season of great giving. Tony Friguls, the founder of Baba’s Bunch, was thrown into the battle of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s when his wife Maria, at age 55, was diagnosed in 2005.

The condition led him to sell his business to take on the immense challenge of providing full time care as she worked through this difficult disease.

During these last long and difficult 11 years since diagnosis, Maria's condition has steadily progressed and degenerated rapidly to the point that she is now totally dependent with 24/7 assistance for all her basic activities of daily living.

However, from his first-hand experience in learning how difficult it is to care for a person with Alzheimer's, he decided to create a Foundation with the specific Mission to raise awareness about the disease and to provide assistance and education to caregivers and families afflicted by Alzheimer's.

Baba’s Bunch’s ongoing impact not only stems from its community support for families and caregivers who face the challenges of Alzheimer’s on a daily basis, but they also have the lofty mission to support as many in-need families and help them get the in-house care necessary to ease the suffering of this challenging journey.

Through their partnership with Eastern Seals South Florida Legacy Corps program, Baba's Bunch Foundation, Inc. is currently providing 8 hours of in-home respite support for an entire year to 12 in-need families. Additionally, and in cooperation with Vitas Hospice, Baba’s Bunch Foundation, Inc. offers ten regularly scheduled support groups each month for their caregivers and their families.

Turner Hats is proud to sponsor such an amazing and hard working organization. We’d love to continue growing their reach and impact, and we invite you to join their cause through donations to the Baba’s Bunch Foundation.
